Shuttlecock ReviewHits: [14338]

Our choices : (1) Protech PT-10 , (2) Yonex AS05, (3) RSL Tourney #1

Shuttles Brand Price Durablility Flight Speed Remarks
Protech PT-10 $28

5

4.5 4.5

Source- SG. Found this to be the most durable among the lot we've tested, relatively good tolerance for mis-hit. Our 1st choice among the lot if we ignore the price tag. Queenway sells around $30+.

Protech Masterpiece $26 3.5 4.5 4.5 Source - MY. Not as durable. Quality not consistent within the tube, and also differs in each batch we purchased. (Average durability dropped to 3.5)
Protech Tournament $26 3.5 4 4 Once you've tried PT-10, the rest just feel really slightly inferior especially if the price difference isn't that great.
Protech Silver $15 1 2 2 Shuttles are real brittle. The poor durability affected the stability of the flight and speed. We use almost 2-3 shuttles during an agressive game.
RSL Classic $25 4 4 4 Source - MY. Fairly durable and stable.
RSL Tourney #1 $25 4 4.5 4.5 Source - MY. Reasonably durable, lasted for 1 game or slightly more. Our 3rd choice among the lot.
Space Arrow Black $18 3 4 4 Source - SG. We use speed 77 & Space arrow black are well within the specification, we tried all 12 shuttles in the tube. I’m quite happy with the consistency of the result.. See detail review - >>
Sosan (red) $26 2.5 2.5 2.5 Source - SG. Everything just doesn't feel good about the shuttles.Practically everyone complaining about the shuttles. Plus, considering the price, it's definitely on our "Once is enough" List.
Dr. Fly $22 2 3.5 3.5 Source - China. Poor tolerance with mis-hit. Px with min purchase of 100 tubes
Yonex AS10 $24 3 3 3 Source - SG. Poor durability, Not worth the money. Feels like Honda price with Chery engine.
Yonex AS03 $- 3.5 4 4

Source - China. Not available in Singapore. Bought 1 tube to try. When compared with AS05, it lasted less than 1 game. Definitely not as durable when compare to PT10 or AS05.

Yonex AS05

$24

4.5 4.5 4.5

Source - (available in SG only thro Badminton Network). 100% Value-for-money. Excellent durability among other Yonex shuttles, and certainly comparable to PT10. Good quality control for all 12 shuttles in the tube. Although, It is known as practise shuttle (duck feathers) for the tournament shuttle AS-50. It has similar flight and speed as AS-40, I have not tried AS-50, so I can't confirm if it feels the same.

We've recieved several compliments from other users who have bought and tried this shuttles.

Our AS05 is temporarily sold out. Check out our Market Place section for more details and updates.

Yonex AS40 $38 4 5 5

Source - SG. International Tournment used shuttles. Speed is slightly faster compared with PT10 and AS05. But price is on the steeper side for normal use.

Price quoted (in SGD)

The following review was done in 2005

1. Sintec 818 is a tournament grade of shuttlecock used in the Toa Payoh West CC competition. It gives good flight consistancy but the speed slows down after some hard smashes. Each ball is good enough to last for a match.

2. Proace AT-75, the feather begains to spread widely after a few base to base stroking, have to change a new shuttle when the actual game begains.

3. Protech PT10. Shuttle starts to wobble after a few hard smash. I believe in the same tube, you get a mixture of good and bad shuttlecocks. Each ball lasted about 1.2 game

4. Protech Green. Good durable shuttlecock. On an average, each ball can last about 2 games at intermediate level of play.

5. Aeroplane G1130. Also a good shuttle, each ball lasted about 1.3 match.

6. Aeroplane EG1130. What can I say, it's by far the best shuttle I have ever used. During our test, its amazingly lasted 4 matches before we decided to change a new one. The feather doesn't break easily. The flight path also gives an excellent feel.

7. Victor Green, not a bad shuttle. Good enough for serious players. Each ball lasted about 1.5 game.

8. Space Arrow WS-1, approved by IBF. This shuttle impressed me not by its durablility, but its flight path. Gives extraordinary feel and control. Each ball lasted about 1.5 game. Recommended for serious competitive play.

9. YuXiang, I wonder if they ever have QC. Each tube is mixed with good and poor shuttles. Good flight but lousy consistancy. Each ball only lasted about 0.5 game.

10. Tailai 001. Another china import. Gives good durablility and flight path. Each ball lasted about 2 game.

11. Tailai 201. Suitable for average play, each ball can last till 1 match. Good for training use or friendly match.

12. Yonex AS-40 is selling at about S$30 in major sport stores, the price quoted here were base on the cheapest rate that I can find in Singapore. Gives excellent flight path, but not very durable.

13. Yonex MAVIS 350. only use this for training, super durable but lousy flight path and feel. When hit, it gives a uncomfortable feel, or maybe I'm not use to that feel.

14. Gosen(not gosen gold) & wilson. Both ok for friendly match. Each ball can only last about 0.75 game.

Conslusion? I have to say, what's your style of play. Some group don't mind reusing the ball for another match while others insist on getting a new ball for each game. If you ask me, I would recommend the followings:

Tournament
a. Aeroplane EG1130
b. Space arrow WS-1
c. Yonex AS40

Serious Competitive Play
a. Protech Green
b. Tailai 001
c. Victor Green
d. Yonex AS30

Intermidate Play
a. Sintec 818
b. Protech PT10
c. Aeroplane G1130

Training/Begainners
a. Yonex MAVIS 350
b. Tailai 201
c. Proace AT75

Well, that's about all I've to say now. Perhaps you guys can make some comments on my reseach or add your own views on the above shuttles.

AS05, wat can I say...
Nothing but good lor.. Value for money if itz a concern.
Can even last a good whole 2 games if not for heavy artillary... If not itz still good for 1 serious game without much compromise to the quality of flight.
Sud have gotten this much eariler, well, still better late than never ya, haha...
=P
